The Virginia Association of Democratic Chairs in conjunction with the Virginia AFL-CIO is asking all Virginia Democratic Committee's to co-sponsor a resolution in opposition to the proposed Constitutional amendment that will be on the Nov. 8 ballot writing "right to work" language into the Virginia Constitution.  We will discuss and vote on this resolution at the May 9 meeting.

Wanted:  Democrats to Participate in the Presidential Nominating Process

The York-Poquoson Democratic Committee is calling for delegates to the District and State Convention as the next step in the Presidential nominating contest.  The York-Poquoson Committee will hold an Assembled Caucus on Saturday, April 16 at 12:00 noon at the Yorktown Library to elect 17 delegates and 5 alternates to the 1st Congressional District Convention in Fredericksburg on May 21 and the State Convention in Richmond on June 18.  The delegates will be allocated as follows, based on the results of the March 1 primary:  10 delegates and 2 alternates for Hillary Clinton, 7 delegates and 3 alternates for Bernie Sanders.

Anyone interested in being a delegate must pre-file with Chris Mayer, Chair of the York-Poquoson Democratic Committee, no later than 5:00 PM, April 9, 2016.  There is a voluntary $20.00 filing fee for delegate.  There is no charge whatsover to attend and vote in the Caucus.  The pre-filing form can be found at a link below.

Since the nominating procedure was set prior to the recent redistricting, for Presidential purposes, York-Poquoson will be participating in the 1st CD Convention, not the 2nd CD.

If fewer than the allocated number of delegates and alternates pre-file for both campaigns, the the Caucus is subject to cancellation and everyone who has pre-filed will be named a delegate or alternate.

The York-Poqouson Democratic Committee meets the 2nd Monday of each month at the York High School Library at 7:00 PM.  All local Democrats are encouraged to participate.

The Yorktown Library is located at 8500 George Washington Memorial Highway.  York High School is located at 9300 George Washington Memorial Highway.

All Democrats are invited!

We will be preparing for our Delegate Selection Caucus on April 16 when we will choose delegates to the 1st District and State Conventions.  York and Poquoson will choose 17 delegates based on the results of the primary held on March 1st.  Hillary is allocated 10 delegates and Bernie will have 7.

The 1st District Convention will be held Saturday, March 21st in Fredericksburg and State Convention will be held June 18th in Richmond.  Delegate filing forms will be available at our meeting.

We are now in the 2nd Congressional District, but for the purposes of the 2016 Presidential race only, we will continue to participate in the 1st CD.  There will be a primary to select the 2nd District nominee for Congress if there is a contested race.  The primary date is Tuesday, June 14th.

There are no names of potential Democratic candidates for Congress in the 2nd that I can share with you at this time.

Calling All York-Poquoson Democrats!

Notice of the York-Poquoson Democratic Committe
Reorganization and Election of Officers.

The York-Poquoson Democratic Committee hereby announces that it will hold an assembled caucus beginning at 7:00 PM, on December 14th 2015 in the York High School Library, 9300 George Washington Memorial Hwy., Yorktown, VA, for the purpose of electing members to the York-Poquoson Democratic Committee, and the election of new officers for the 2016 and 2017 calendar years.

Any person wishing to be a member of the Committee, but is unable to attend the caucus, may contact Chris Mayer, Chair, at yorkpoqdems@cox.net, or contact by phone, 757-561-6466, prior to the caucus.

Any person wishing to seek election as an officer of the Committee must file with Chris Mayer, Chair, at yorkpoqdems@cox.net, or contact by phone, 757-561-6466, no later than 5:00 PM, Sunday, December 13,2015.  Forms will be forwarded by email.

Any person attending the caucus, before participating in that caucus, shall sign a standardized Caucus Participation Form stating that he or she is a Democrat, does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic nominee in the next general election, believes in the principles of the Democratic Party, and is a registered voter in York County or the City of Poquoson.  Caucus Participation Forms must be filled out prior to participating in the caucus.

There is no charge for participating in the caucus, however only members who join the committee will be allowed to particpate in the voting for officers.  The cost of membership is thirty dollars annually, which may be waived upon request.

The York-Poquoson Democrats will have their reorganization meeting on Monday, December 14 at 7:00 PM at the York High School library.  This is your chance to become involved as we move in to the Presidential Campaign in 2016.

Join us for the Yorktown July 4th Parade.  We will assemble at the National Parks picnic area at the foot of Water Street.  Arrive no later than 8:15, as the parade kicks off at 9:00.
